Having just visited Canada where this is legal, there are drug addicts now openly high in every park and street corner. The stench as you walk through the towns and cities is worse than cigarette smoke (which I also hate, but is gradually being replaced by strawberry vapes!). The shops are full of people obviously high and unable to look after themselves The tax revenue from legalizing this is not worth the mental health of our children.
This was a tough one. As a libertarian my instinct is towards legalisation but I am not blind to the dangers of cannabis use. However, as a general rule I believe that it is often the case that more harm is caused by the criminal activity associated with illegal drugs than are caused by the actual drugs themselves.

What hypocritical ideas we have. Banning smoking, by age, anyone born ten years ago yet suggesting cannabis for recreational use.It never stops there does it.
The arguments against fall flat at the first hurdle. It's already incredibly normalised and anyone who wants to purchase cannabis can do so from the black market in about 20 minutes. Legalising means regulating to ensure harmful chemicals aren't mixed in the product, and immediately ends the monopoly of dangerous drug gangs on the market and all the crime they cause. Yes, they may just move into hard drugs but these have a much lower demand across the country
There is a case for yes. Overall harms from cannabis have repeatedly been reported as less than for alcohol in medical journals. There should however be restrictions on where it can be smoked. For example: ot around children in households, not in public spaces where second hand smoke can cause impairment in others, and increased penalties for driving under the influence.
When the USA had prohibition it only created massive criminality and was abandoned as a complete failure. The current policy is also prohibition, is also driving widespread criminality and is also a complete failure. No young person who wants to smoke weed has been prevented from doing so by these laws We have to start with some honesty and work on laws which will work

Only cannabis regulated and sold via the NHS for medical relief such as for MS should be legal.
