Should people have a right to say no to conscription without punishment?

If you aren't willing to protect your country and people in a time of great need there should be repercussions, but punishment isn't the right word for that. I can't answer yes because without conscription we're mostly defenseless
I think this is actually a badly framed question. I answered no because of course there should not be a right to refuse conscription - otherwise it wouldn't be conscription, would it? My answer to "Should there be conscription" would also be no.
I voted yes because a person should have the right to decide how they riskntheir lives. Defending the country against a hostile State intent on destroying the UK and our way of life is worth the sacrifice, but being forced to fight in politically motivated wars on foteign soil is not something I support, and am not willing to sacrifice my liffe for
I would gladly sign up to defend the UK in an actual just war of self-defence (e.g. protecting the Falklands) However, given the atrocities that we have supported in my lifetime (Gaza, Iraq, Afghanistan, the list goes on) it's unconscionable to force people to go and fight for a cause they don't believe in. Why would we hand guns to people who don't support the campaign in question?
Much of this heightened tension with Russia has been brought about by our government. A lot of the rhetoric is scaremongering and the cynic in me suspects them of doing it so they can enact emergency legislation, with more authoritarianism being the main goal. Create an enemy, scare the public enough that they agree to draconian measures.
The Govt would not get away with trying this. Start conscripting young British men, having demonised that same demographic for years, all whilst allowing thousands of undocumented migrants to pour in month after month. No hope. The parties of the right would promise to cancel conscription and the Government would be rightly massacred at the election.

Yes, but - conscientious objection was allowed but was not the social default in previous wars. There was social shame to not fighting. I suspect the virtue-signalling pacifists want it to be the social default this time. Then what? We can't force people. The Rght thinks there's nothing worth fighting for, the Left thinks fighting is evil and discriminatory. We will care enough to fight eventually, too late.
This is poorly worded imho as I could have voted yes or no. I believe that there is a case for conscientious objection but in times where conscription is necessary (I don’t think we need general national service) objection should come with other tasks and expectations of work and duties. Failure to undertake those duties should then result in punishment
Our High Trust homogenous society has been destroyed by hard left Globalists in hoc to the likes of EU & UN & a New World Order that nobody save a corrupt elite want. Our Politicians are either bribed or blackmailed to implement Globalist policies - look at the Covid hoax - they broke compact with electorate as conscription should be to save & protect the UK. Govt is actively destroying UK importing a low IQ Muslim army stationing it around UK for when we have had enough.
