Should GPs in England take collective action against the 2026/27 contract?
The BMA reports that 99% of around 17,000 GP members voted to reject changes to the 2026/27 GMS contract. GPC England is prioritising negotiations on mandated advice and guidance plus excessive workload from online patient requests. Since May 2025 the BMA has urged practices to take monthly collective actions including limiting data sharing, altering prescribing software use, and declining new shared care invitations without local agreements.
