Should the UK introduce a legal duty of candour on public officials to tell the truth in inquiries?
MPs have approved the Public Office (Accountability) Bill, known as the Hillsborough Law. It imposes a duty on public authorities and officials to tell the truth and co-operate with official investigations and inquiries. The bill is named after the 1989 Hillsborough disaster in which 97 people died and police spread false narratives blaming fans.
