Yes won overwhelmingly, but the argument behind that verdict was less a shared programme than a common impatience: voters called for major change while disagreeing sharply about what it should be.
The most-respected Yes case described a country where “the cost of living is soul crushing” alongside “the loss of jobs and industry”. Another Yes voter distilled the diagnosis to “High tax, high spend, low service, low growth”; others demanded cleaner government, affordable homes or a smaller state.
That breadth concealed a serious split. One Yes voter wanted “a tax system that supports marriage and children”; another argued for “cut spending & taxes” and stronger borders. A Yes voter who backed Burnham’s reforms sat alongside one who warned against “nationalisation, devolution, welfare state max.”
The No case was less a defence of the status quo than a challenge to the question and the timing. Its most-respected argument called it “too vague and is a loaded question”, urging voters to see where Burnham’s changes led before demanding more; another No voter said he had had “a mostly good start”. They questioned whether a mandate for change could say which changes the UK wanted.
That leaves a verdict on dissatisfaction, not a settled direction: even the winning side’s strongest diagnosis produced competing prescriptions.

I find some of the proposed policies quite alarming, such as giving councils the right to seize property that has been empty for 6 months, but then again is it not part of the 'you will own nothing and be happy' agenda, the cost of living is soul crushing, the loss of jobs and industry, the bloated welfare cost for unknown migrants, the dangers we now face leaving the house if you are lucky enough to have one, the UK is a shambles under the previous and current government.
So many changes to make. My first would be that MPs and Lords are not allowed to use private health care. My second is that MPs children must be educated in a state school that falls in their constituency. Third; they are not allowed to claim expenses or accept gifts that a construction industry apprentice would be denied. Improvements would come.
Come on, honestly its a disaster right now. Taxes up, employment down. Stopping illegal migration is impossible but jailing patriots is Govt policy. This clown car Govt needs to go, as it's destroying so much of the good in our country. We need to cut spending & taxes, get business & work paying. Defend our people & our borders around the world & remember this little island is still the 5/6th largest economy, with a creative & inventive people Time we acted like it again
UK heading in same direction as under Torys. Sold out to globalists & UN Agenda 2030, our culture eliminated our island invaded by Islam & a conscious descent into civil war so government can rule without elections. Our energy stability being eliminated by the NetZero hoax, industrial base consciously trashed our food security challenged & final steps of a surveillance state put in place. Apart from typical Labour madness they are implementing Global policies as instructed.
We literally live in a failed state and I’m not kidding. We need law and order under a reformed and reinvigorated police, the suppression of leftist domestic organisations, and a lot of deportations.
As vague as the question is, it works because the UK is headed in the wrong direction in every possible way!
The majority of people want immigration both legal and illegal stopped. The government need to honour what the public voted for, Brexit was supposed to secure our borders. Allowing criminals out of jail is wrong also.
its too early to call Andy Burnham out on his leadership but successive leaders on both sides of the political debate have left the country weaker rather than stronger. we have never seen so much turmoil at the top of Government. Some (not all) may have had vision but rarely had a chance to implement their ambitions. the people need faith that government is working.
You are only allowed 480 characters to make a case, not enough to list the lunacy of the present Labour regime. They are simply totalitarian globalists, puppets of the WEF/UN/EU & the rest of the anti freedom, anti human cabal. They have nothing to offer.
Yes. Britain needs more than another slogan about “hope”. Unpick decades of policies that made family formation harder. Set measurable goals: homes affordable on one normal income, lower household costs, secure employment and a tax system that supports marriage and children. Young couples who want families shouldn't have to delay into their 30s because a home and children are unaffordable. Make Britain a country where forming a family is realistically achievable again.
