The proposition carried by a clear majority, yet this was no rout of an unchallenged case. The room’s most respected voices were largely arguing that Israel had been singled out unfairly — a striking mismatch between the verdict and the arguments that earned the floor’s highest marks.
The Yes case was strongest when it widened the lens beyond Israel itself. Its best-respected argument said that “millions in campaign donations and targeted influence distort open debate”, while another insisted that “too many lobbies have too much influence”, including Israel’s. A further Yes voice rejected the idea that lobbying alone explained policy, arguing that “imperial self interest” was the deeper driver of US and UK alignment.
No voters, by contrast, made the debate a comparison of influence rather than a judgement on Israel’s influence. The floor’s most-respected No arguments pointed to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and others, asking why “it’s Israel that’s singled out” and asserting that “Israel doesn't even come close”. Other voices defended lobbying as legitimate, cast Israel as a democratic ally, and pointed to intelligence and military cooperation; the two sides were often answering different questions about disproportionate power.
That exchange places the result inside the wider argument about foreign money, political access and scrutiny of influence over western policy. The specific finding here is that the chamber could endorse scrutiny of the Israel lobby while remaining sharply divided over whether the real story was Israel, or the broader system in which states and aligned interests compete for leverage.
The vote’s paradox is plain: Yes won the question, while No supplied the room’s most respected rebuttal.

As a democratic country, the only one out in the wilderness that is of western values including education and unfettered freedoms for women it has to keep pushing for it's rights as a free country.
Israel does not have the level of influence it is purported to have. Other nations are buying way more influence - China, Qatar, Saudi - than Israel is.
Do I agree with the US system of lobbying for cash? No, but it's their country. Do I think Israel should be excluded from this game because it's somehow too good at it? No. Do I think Israel has influence in America? Yes. But not because of the lobbying game. Because it brings military intelligence and weapon development to the table. We bring nowt.
I have voted no because lobbying is legitimate and people can make up there own minds for and against. My Grandfathers both fought a war due to Hitler's and Rome's actions against Jews. Pius XII gave Hitler support though more junior priests and nuns did do the right thing. HAMAS like the IRA are terrorists and we should do everything to support either of those organisations not gaining power!! Oh too late thats happened already!
The whole Israeli question is weaponised by ProPals and allies. Bigger issues tracking the money behind these groups would be more beneficial. Where do all the ready made placards come from for instant pro left demonstrations?
I voted yes, but I don’t believe the tail wags the dog. It is not the power of the Israeli lobby but imperial self interest that drive US and (deferential cheerleader for the USA) UK policy in the Middle East.
YES Israel & Judaism has to much influence over the western democracies Political influence bought by Israeli 'sponsorship' of the 'friends of Israel' who then bribe MP's in the UK & Europe With 'donations' by huge companies/banks/organisations owned by Jewish owners (particularly in the USA as well as the UK) Why Israel is allowed to get away with this I don't know What I do know is if it was an Arab country doing the same there would be outrage in the western hemisphere
Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Korea and the USA spend far more on lobbying than Israel does. But of course it’s Israel that’s singled out in this biased question. Because of course it is.
