Did Starmer leave the country a better place than he found it?
Keir Starmer resigned as Prime Minister in late June 2026 after less than two years in office. He inherited stagnant growth, high public debt, strained public services and low political trust from the prior Conservative government. During his tenure the UK saw some economic stabilisation measures and public service reforms but also rising unemployment, squeezed household finances for many and continued debates over living standards and fiscal policy.
