Should the GLA and Mayor of London be abolished?
The Greater London Authority and directly elected Mayor were created in 2000 to provide unified leadership for the capital's 8.8 million residents after the GLC was abolished in 1986. The Mayor controls Transport for London, influences housing and policing, and sets the London budget, but critics highlight clashes with government over issues like ULEZ expansion, crime, and protests. Recent calls for abolition have grown amid dissatisfaction with the current Mayor's record on knife crime and housing costs.

London should be a thriving city of 20 million talented people in order to compete on the world stage. The GLA and London Mayor will never get us there - direct control from Westminster just might.
