Should the government tighten daily living assessments for new PIP claimants?
The government planned to require new personal independence payment claimants from November 2026 to score at least four points in a single daily living activity rather than across several. Current recipients are exempt. The change was delayed pending a review by Work and Pensions Minister Sir Stephen Timms after Labour MPs rebelled, reducing expected £5.5bn savings.
