Should the Scottish parliament be axed?
The Scottish Parliament was established by the 1998 Scotland Act following a 1997 referendum, giving it powers over health, education, justice and transport while Westminster retains control of defence, foreign policy and the constitution. In the 2026 Holyrood election, pro-independence parties secured a majority of seats and passed a motion requesting a second independence referendum, which the UK government has refused. Recent social media shows mixed views with some calling Holyrood a costly extra layer of politicians while others see it as essential for Scottish democracy.

Too many MSPs paid too much for too little work, second division politicians, now it's become criminal, better with first division politicians in the house of commons
