Should the number of government ministries and civil servants be cut by one third?
As of March 2026 the UK has around 24 ministerial departments, 20 non-ministerial departments and over 400 agencies and public bodies, employing 557,825 civil servants on a headcount basis (523,795 FTE). The civil service has grown by one third since 2016 despite repeated pledges to reduce its size. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has stated the state has grown too large and plans to transfer resources from central government to local areas.

5,000 administrators ran the British empire at its peak, with one and paper. Now we require 520,000+ with computers to administer just the UK! Clearly, it’s a scam hiding yet more welfare for pretend jobs, that contribute nothing to the economy and produce nothing!
