Should the UK government issue new North Sea oil and gas licences?

Andy Burnham will become prime minister on Monday and plans to announce new North Sea oil and gas drilling. Labour's 2024 manifesto pledged not to issue new licences but to honour existing ones. Two fields, Rosebank and Jackdaw, approved under the Conservatives, were overturned in 2025 after legal challenge.

We need oil. We have plenty of our own. We need to start fracking too.
