Should nuclear power be expanded?

The UK generates around 15% of its electricity from nuclear power at five operational plants. Government policy targets expansion to up to 24 GW by 2050 through new large reactors, small modular reactors and life extensions, as part of a low-carbon mix with renewables and gas backup to ensure energy security and reduce fossil fuel imports.
